Terrific Tuesday – 21st April

Welcome back Platypus class.

I hope you all made a good start to your home learning routine yesterday. It is not easy but remember to try and make a timetable for each day with what you plan to do and when. About two hours of focused learning spread out over the day is what I would recommend and plenty of creative and fun activities in-between!

Remember your daily tasks of Zumos, Phonics Play, Reading and Sumdog each day. Oh and keep practicing those spelling for the quiz on Thursday…

E-Safety First

For obvious reasons we are all spending more time online at the moment. Platypus class duty bearers please use the link attached to find some great age appropriate home learning resources to teach the children about how to stay safe online https://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/parents/Support-tools/home-activity-worksheets/?utm_source=Thinkuknow&utm_campaign=46e6250b3e-TUK_ONLINE_SAFETY_AT_HOME_07_04_20&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_0b54505554-46e6250b3e-55345345

Maths Home Learning

Today’s Maths lesson is on the home learning section of the White Rose website. https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/

Summer Term – Week 1 Lesson 2 is looking at making equal groups.

Try and record the answer to the questions on the activity sheet in your blue book. It it a good idea to use some real objects to try grouping too. For example, can you find some real socks to do the first question with?

English Home Learning

Yesterday’s lesson was all about different ‘genres’ of story. How many different types of styles of story did you think of? Thank you to all of you who shared your favourite stories as well.

Today lesson is on the bitesize website and it is all about using describing words: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zd372sg

There is also some great imaginative writing for you to do inspired by the story of the ‘The Magic Faraway Tree’. I’d love to hear about some of your ideas.

Topic Home Learning

This term our history topic will focus on castles.

Use these slides to find out about the people who built the first castles in England.

Now think about what question you would like to Harold of Wessex and William the Conquerer.

Watch this video to see if it answers any of your questions…

Want to find out even more about the Normans then take a look here. https://www.dkfindout.com/uk/search/normans/

Have a great day and don’t forget to leave a comment on any part of your learning from today!

  1. Thank you Kiyana and Mum. What an inspiring message – you have certainly helped me feel more positive with your encouraging words. I am excited to hear what is at the top of Kiyana’s tree…

  2. Well done Muhammad sound like you are doing really well. There is quite a lot to cover in the BBC English lessons so only do as much as you feel able!

  3. Hello Mr Fielder. We appreciated the message left today.

I hope all the parents and careers can take comfort in the fact we are all finding this challenging in our own way, and that we are all doing a great job the matter what that looks like. Some days will be easier than others but all of the children will be back to school eventually, and I’m sure they will have the support and encouragement needed from the teachers and us to get them back on track.

Kiyana’s describing words for things around the home was the following…
    Bouncy ball
    Furry toy dog
    Comfy sofa
    Purple scooter
    Hard easel board

Kiyana will get back to you on what her made up land will be as a lot of thinking has been done today regarding the writing challenge.

  4. Muhammad did really well with the maths activity and he is still working on the writing, but he had fun learning about castles too
    Thanks mr fielder

  5. Great to hear that Jovani enjoyed using Sumdog over the holidays – I was impressed by his score! A bit of friendly competition can help motivate us all sometime!

  6. Hi Mr Fielder,

Sorry I was at work when you rang. Yes, Jovani is doing well with the work and really liked the Easter challenge, although we couldn’t catch up with Kihanna, he was very happy he passed Ali and Samuel! This was a great idea as it kept him entertained and wanting to actually do more and more so he could pass his friends.

    Thank you!!
